Dock Dogs cojnsists of 3 main events; "Big Air" which is essentially a long jump for dogs. Distance jumped is measured to the BASE of the dogs tail. In club competitions this is measured manually by two certified judges and in National competition this is measured electronically. "Extreme Vertical" (aka EV) is similar to a high jump competition. The bumper is suspended above the water eight feet out with the lowest starting height set at four foot, six inches high. Dogs are required to “grab” or knock down the bumper from the extended arm to obtain an official score. And "Speed Retrieve" which is the newest discipline to come to DockDogs. The dog starts from the starting block, 58 feet from the 20 foot mark on the dock, and will run, jump from the end of the dock, swim out and retrieve the bumper from the rig at the end of the pool. The dog must snatch the object cleanly before the timer stops. The dog does not need to bring the object back to the handler for a score. The fastest dog wins.
For now our dogs compete in "Big
Air" and "Speed Retrieve" but we are hoping to have the
opportunity to train for "Extreme Vertical" in the hear future.
